Our behaviour policy is based on the Kate Birch ‘Positive Parenting’ and ‘Positive Teaching’ books, available from our parent library.

Teachers are aware of changes in children’s behaviour and know appropriate stress releases, e.g., water play, cuddles, etc. We do not use negative language or attitudes.

The use of natural and logical consequences is put into place wherever appropriate, e.g., if a child is throwing sand in the sandpit, the logical consequence is that they will be required to leave the sandpit.

Wherever possible, teachers are encouraged to let children solve their problems.

Teachers don’t choose when learning will occur, since children are learning all the time. A teacher decides when to let the children explore on their own and when to support and broaden their experience.

If we can examine and refine our motives for intervention, we will go far towards becoming teachers who set our children free.
